Chapel Book Teas
On January 31, 2004,  we had another memorable Chapel Book Tea, this time focusing on Jan Karon's Mitford book "These High, Green Hills."
We set our tables for Cynthia's Primrose Tea - with a real primrose plant on each table, a few hazelnuts tossed about for good measure, and a menu of lemon squares, strawberry chocolate, and vegetable sandwiches.
Our sets detailed many aspects of the book, and included the cave Father Tim and Cynthia were lost in (including Snickers wrappers, colored pencils, socks, and a water bottle).....
...a mural of "These High, Green Hills" (the Land of Counterpane) with an actual large yellow plane model flying from the ceiling... and below that a stone bench with their special picnic meal on it - complete with ripe pears and roasted garlic....
Cynthia's yellow house (with her easel and new illustrations visible through the window)....the hedge with The Dreaded Armoire partway through it on the flagstone path, the kitchen with its newly-banged-up walls....
... the dining room with its 'soft pumpkin' ragged walls, authentic Irish linen tablecloth, Father Tim's grandmother's silver, and his globe and their wedding picture on the side, and many other details of the book...even Violet's cat carrier and Barnabas' water dish.
Everything was in place - and then the guests came! More pictures of the Primrose Tea....
